It's all changed

Welcome to my new "real" blog.

It's been a while since I last posted, and I think it had to do with the process of blogging with my old tools. It was, to be blunt, very much a hands-on kind of thing: I'd write the post as a text-file and then put the right HTML markup (with CSS styles) around it all. Tedious wasn't really the word.

I've got really used to Windows Live Writer on my other, company, blog, and I really wanted to use that program to write. I'd also bought an early copy of Graffiti CMS from Telligent (I was in the beta and got it cheap) and Windows Live Writer supported that, and so I was just left with finding a visual theme for the blog. I found and modified a free Wordpress theme called Chronicles to use it in Graffiti, and...

...then there was no excuse not to launch the new blog.

So here it is.

And, yes, you can comment. And, yes, there are tweaks to make. But, enjoy.

Julian - your new site looks really nice! I would never have considered brown as a web site base color but it works very well. Hope to see lots of blog entries ;-)

Mike: Thanks. The reason I liked this theme so much was because it *was* brown: something new! And the main reason for changing was to blog more: my old way of blogging was an impediment. Doing blog posts with code was a nightmare of markup.

Cheers, Julian

Hi Julian. Yep, this is a nice site despite not being the number one choice of colour scheme for people. You've made it work and I have visited the site a few times recently.

I'm in the process of learning JavaScript (CIW) which I'm all but done with really. I'm sure your lessons will be the ideal study aid for me to learn more though. Next is Perl.

About Me

I'm Julian M Bucknall, the M because it's my middle initial and because I and the other Julian Bucknall (the movie guy) would like to differentiate ourselves.

I'm a programmer by trade, an actor by ambition, and an algorithms guy by osmosis. I write articles for PCPlus in my spare time, not that there's much of that.

Julian M Bucknall Apart from that, an ex-pat Brit, atheist, microbrew enthusiast, Pet Shop Boys fanboy, slide rule and HP calculator collector, amateur photographer, Altoids muncher.

DevExpress

I'm Chief Technology Officer at Developer Express, a software company that writes some great controls and tools for .NET and Delphi. I'm responsible for the technology oversight and vision of the company.
